Item Description

In late July 2022, the Montgomery Zoo had seven capybara pups born. The pups were named after characters from Encanto and Star Wars. They were tagged with colorful stripes to make them easier to identify. The pups were able to swim, run, and play in their enclosure shortly after birth.
The Montgomery Zoo has had success breeding capybaras, which can be difficult to pair up into successful breeding groups.  Upon maturity, the pups will be transferred to other zoos to continue the SSP conservation program.
Once the pups reach maturity, they will be transferred to other zoos to continue the SSP conservation program.

Known to be gregarious, Capybara's are herbivores and quite fussy about the selection of plants on which they will dine.  Native to every country in South America except Chile, many in captivity have escaped and now live throughout North America as well, finding Florida a particularly favorite habitat.

Related to the guinea pig, Capybara's are the world's largest rodents and can grow to be 1.5 meters long!  They are great swimmers with webbed feet and can swim underwater for up to 5 minutes!

Display this tile -- and your knowledge of Capybaras -- proudly in your kitchen, dining room or den.  What a GREAT conversation piece!
