Peter Sis is an artist, author, and filmmaker born in Brno-Czech Republic who now lives and works in New York City area. He has created award winning animated shorts, posters, murals, tapestries and public art. Sis has written and illustrated a number of books for children and adults, including three Caldecott Honor books: Starry Messenger-Galileo Galilei, Tibet Through The Red Box, and The Wall-Growing Up Behind Iron Curtain. He is the recipient of 2003 MacArthur Fellowship and a 2012 Hans Christian medal for illustration. His art has been exhibited around the world.
